Sources & methodology.

How these guides and the Radar are built, sourced, reviewed and corrected. The aim is simple: every substantive claim should trace to a primary source you can open and check yourself.

PRIMARY LAW: EUR-LEX ↗ · REGISTER: ESMA MICA HUB ↗

How the guides are written

The Library summarises published EU law and official regulator materials in plain language. Guides are drafted from the consolidated text of the relevant regulation on EUR-Lex and from ESMA/EBA guidance, then checked against those sources before publication. Where the law contains exceptions, the guide says so rather than stating a categorical rule. Nothing here is legal advice: obligations depend on your specific facts and Member State.

How the Radar data is produced

The MiCA Radar displays a dated, enriched snapshot of ESMA’s public interim MiCA register: 374 authorised-CASP rows in the 19 October 2026 source snapshot, with separate EMT-issuer and non-compliant-entity counts. The public snapshot was generated on 22 October 2026; it is not a live read of ESMA. The separate ESMA CSV parser groups rows on a composite of LEI (when supplied), lowercased legal name and home member state, merges service codes, excludes withdrawn entries and rejects a pull below its minimum count. That is not LEI-only deduplication. The enriched public snapshot has legal names and provider-site URLs but does not expose LEIs or direct regulator-record URLs, so its 374-row total cannot be independently reconciled by LEI from this page. Its source updated and generated dates identify the snapshot, not a promise of automatic refresh. Blank authorisation dates are shown as a dash, not guessed. Provider-site links are not regulator records; verify status on ESMA’s MiCA register hub or with the relevant national authority before relying on it.

The Radar also publishes a Non-Compliant Entities (NCE) tab sourced from the fifth file of ESMA’s interim register, NCASP.csv (non-compliant entities providing crypto-asset services, MiCA Articles 59, 61, 109 and 110; rows are declarations by national competent authorities and the register is non-exhaustive). The tab renders the current ESMA file as published (178 rows at 22 October 2026, verified live at build time), with country/authority filters, a distribution map, a register-clock “recently flagged” panel (records whose decision or last-update field is on/after the cutoff) and a repository-update card comparing the new-authorisation, withdrawn and NCE lists against the radar’s dated snapshot. Duplicate rows present in ESMA’s file (three entities listed twice) are kept and flagged, never merged silently. No NCE list is derived from absence in the authorised-CASP file.

Review cadence

Each guide shows the date it was last checked. Guides are reviewed quarterly, and sooner when a Level 2/3 measure, guideline or timetable changes. Where a page discusses something still evolving (for example DORA supervisory expectations), that is noted in the guide.

Corrections policy

If you spot a factual error, please tell us via the contact form — note the page, the point in question, and a source. Corrections to substantive points are made promptly, and material changes are noted in the change log below with a date.
